Adderbury Ensemble Children’s Concert- Sunday 1st

AdderburyFRIENDS of MUSIC in ADDERBURY

Dear Friends, I am pleased to give notice of a rather special concert to be given by the Adderbury Ensemble Chamber Orchestra on (this) Sunday November 1st at 4.00 pm in St Mary’s Church, Adderbury.

The principal work will be the ever popular work Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev but they will also play other pieces including Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens. The orchestra is conducted by Steven Bell, who lives locally, has conducted many of the major British Orchestras and is also principal Horn in the BBC Concert Orchestra. The narration for Peter and the Wolf will be given by Tom Redmond (also principal Horn with the Halle Orchestra) and Testimonials follow:-

“Tom Redmond is a horn player, broadcaster, presenter and animator. He has performed throughout Europe, South East Asia, Japan, Russia, North and South America with orchestras including the Philharmonia, CBSO, LSO and Hong Kong Philharmonic. He has been a member of the Hallé Orchestra since 2003.”

“Tom Redmond has the rare ability to present sophisticated and challenging music to less experienced audiences (especially children) in a way that captivates them on the day and inspires them into the future. Tom’s ability to make historical music relevant to the lives of youngsters is unsurpassed. His animated, charismatic and amusing presentation style is key to this success and combined with his vast experience as a working professional player, thorough understanding of the material and the need to resist diluting the integrity of the audience experience, Tom has in our view established himself as the best in the business.”

So although this has been billed as a Children’s Concert, it would seem that this will be a rather special concert and not one to miss even for Grown-ups! Last day of Half-Term and at a good time of day-and under 18’s are Free.  Please make this a must for the whole family as I am sure that you will all enjoy this concert!

She might even manage a step-dance if the wind’s in the right direction. Hear them at www.mandolin.co.uk or more on http://mayorandjames.com

5 Reasons Not to Miss …….

msnd….the Horley Footlights production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream….. as it holds promise of a very special version because …

1. it’s staged in our atmospheric medieval church

2. the script is reduced to the core essence of the story

3. the choreography brings it beautifully to life

4. it is set to Mendelssohn’s incidental music

5. of the live piano accompaniment

It has been re-imagined by Tessa Howell, who has recreated, produced and directed this (her last) Horley Footlights production.  Tessa has excelled herself by making Mr Shakespeare accessible and yet keeping the magical qualities of the story. The cast from the village (except for one young male lover) consists of some seasoned old hands, some new faces and fresh young ones taking centre stage.

Come and see how Horley Footlights resolve the vagaries of both human and fairy behaviour in this best-loved Shakespeare play. Don’t delay as tickets are selling fast! To book yours call Jenny Reynolds on 01295 738125 or email her at  daveandjennyreynolds@btopenworld.com.

The Three Belles @ Upton House – 29th August

NTThis bank holiday weekend, Upton House welcomes the beautiful Three Belles to perform in the gardens as part of the Banking for Victory wartime project currently in the house.

Join us on Saturday 29 August to get in the party mood, bring a picnic, listen to great music and have a dance as the sun sets on the lawn as you are transported back to that great era of music.

3 bellsThe Three Belles are a professional 1940s vocal trio inspired by The Andrews Sisters. They have performed at IOW Fest, West End Live at Trafalgar Square, The Royal Albert Hall, The Ritz and The Savoy and featured on The Alan Titchmarsh Show, BBC South Today and The X Factor Talk Talk Ad, ITV’s ‘Inside The National Trust’ and ‘The Evening Show’ on London Live.

Victoria Wright, Events and Marketing Manager said, ‘We are delighted to welcome The Three Belles for a glamourous evening of drinks, dancing and picnicking in the grounds of Upton. The bank staff who lived here during the war would have listened to this type of music on the wireless in the sitting room and would never have imagined it would have been played out on the terrace in 2015!’
