3Hs Gardening Club Plant Sale – 20th May (tomorrow!)

Tomorrow (20th May) is the 3Hs Gardening Club plant sale, where there will be masses of top quality plants for sale at a fraction of the market price.  This is a major fundraiser for the club and a good opportunity to snap up  some real bargains. 

Plants will be on sale at Hornton Pavilion from 10.30 tomorrow (Saturday) morning



Vistry Homes Planning Application

As you are doubtless aware, Vistry Homes have submitted an outline planning application to Cherwell District Council to build 170 houses on the fields between Hanwell and Banbury. 

Details of the application, together with a form to comment on and track the application, can be found here: Vistry Homes Planning Application. Comments are due by 19 May 2023.

It is important that all comments are sent directly to Cherwell District Council before the closing date.

Whilst the application relates to land in Hanwell Parish, if you would like to make your views on the application known to the Horley Parish Council for their information, please send an email to: NB: This should be in addition to sending comments directly to Cherwell District Council.

Reminder of public meeting tomorrow (Weds 19th April)

The action group Keep Hanwell Village Rural, is running a public meeting tomorrow evening from 7.45pm at the Old School, to give more information about both the Vistry application to build 170 homes between Hanwell and Banbury and the proposed solar development on BOTH sides of the B4100, covering over 80 hectares.

Fundraising Quiz Night – next Friday (14th April)

Proposed Solar Farm Meeting – Weds 19th April, Old School, Horley

There will be a public meeting in Horley organised by Keep Hanwell Village Rural Action Group about the solar farm proposed between Hanwell, Horley and Shotteswell.

On Wednesday 19th April from 19:45 to 21:15 in the Old School, Horley

This is 1 of 3 meetings planned in the 3 affected villages. Other dates announced soon.

Reminder: Solar farm proposal – public exhibition on 15th March

Details of the Solar Farm proposal will be on display at Hanwell Village Hall on Wednesday 15th March 2023 between 3pm and 7pm. Representatives of Elgin Energy will be present to answer questions.

Please take this opportunity to attend and find out more. The consultation period runs from 14th to 28th March. Note that the proposed area includes land on the Horley side of the B4100 as well as an extensive area on the Hanwell side.

3Hs Gardening Club on 14th March – History of the gardens at Upton House

If you’d like to know more about the history of the gardens at Upton House, pop along to the next meeting of the 3Hs Gardening Club, because the speaker will be Alison Hodge, a volunteer who gives guided tours of the gardens to visitors.

Everyone – not just members – can come along to the talk, which takes place in the Hornton Pavilion at 7.30pm on Tuesday March 14th. Non members pay £3 for admission but it only cost £10 to become a member of the club for a year, and then every talk is free.

Solar farm proposal – public meeting on 15th March

There will be a public meeting in Hanwell Village Hall on Wednesday15th March 2023 between 14.30 and 19.30 regarding the solar farm proposal.  It is vital that as many people as possible attend this to discover more details about what is proposed and where it would be.

3Hs Gardening Club Quiz – 14th February


Do you know your Monty Don from your Alan Titchmarch? Can you find your way round the potting shed? Or is the garden just a place to relax and enjoy a tipple? Whatever your gardening knowledge, there will be something for everyone in this fun quiz which is open to all. The three Hs gardening club will have their first meeting of 2023 on Tuesday 14th February starting at 7.30pm in Hornton Pavilion. There will be a gardening quiz with prizes for teams of up to 6 people. Come along and pitch your wits against Horley and Hornton’s finest gardeners – all welcome.
