Yes that’s Maureen who marked the Queen’s 90th birthday with this right royal outfit shown above in today’s Banbury Guardian. We also featured it on Facebook on the day thanks to Jack (Lane Close) sharing his #selfieswithJudy

Horley Walk Original Maps Drawings
I came across these original drawing maps for the Horley circular walk that Mike Patching, Margaret Condon and I worked from with Kevin Larner (CDC). I will also share the artwork and photos that are contained in this leaflet https://thehorleyviews.com/horley-village/horley-circular-walk-2/ . Debra
RIP Gillian O’Connor of Horley
Gillian passed away peacefully in the company of her friends on 3rd April after a short illness. Some of you will remember Gillian for her love of horses and her cats. She lived in Phlox Cottage and after retirement played a very active role in the Citizens Advice Bureau, which she wrote about it in the Horley Views magazine some years ago. However long before we knew her in Horley she had a remarkable career on Fleet Street as a journalist, editor and mentor to many writers. See below the tribute into today’s Banbury Guardian
Please Be Considerate – Bonfire Guidelines
Soon we will be out clearing up our gardens and making way for spring. This time of year we like to open up our windows and bring fresh air into our homes. It’s also a time when people like to have the occasional bonfire and there are no laws preventing you from doing so. However you could always consider other ways of disposing of your waste such as composting and recycling?
If you do still want to light a bonfire then by following these guidelines it will help ensure your smoke is reasonable and respectful of your neighbours:
- Only burn dry material
- Never burn household rubbish, rubber tyres, or anything containing plastic, foam or paint
- Never use engine oil, meths, petrol or paraffin to light the fire or to encourage it
- Avoid lighting a fire when weather conditions are unsuitable. smoke hangs in the air on damp, dull days and in the evenings
- Avoid burning when the wind will carry the smoke over or into other people’s properties
- Avoid burning at weekends or holidays when people want to enjoy their gardens
- Avoid burning when the air quality is ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’
- Never leave a fire unattended or smouldering

Guides are Quackers for Horley
1st Bodicote Guides would like to say “Thank You for making us smile ” after we had walked 5 miles, in the dark when they saw Horley’s duck.
Last week on our night hike from Horley Scout camp to Hornton and back to camp before sleeping under canvas on the coldest night of the year so far.
Guides are quackers !
Thanks to Horley Parish Council
After many years of errosion and damage we now have a kerb to protect the grass verge on upper Wroxton Lane. The repair and widening of the road should also mean that water will flow into the drains and provide a little more space for passing parked cars.
Thank you again Horley Parish Council, what a difference it has made already, Debra
Update: Elderly Man Found- Messages
Update: Elderly Man Found – Messages:
Last night 2/2/16 from Maurice (son in law):
“Thanks so much for all your help over the past few hours as we have tried to track down my father in law Wim, if you didn’t hear, he was found safe and sound in the Premier Inn in Banbury.
I am honestly moved to tears by how Hanwell has pulled together when someone is in need. I do sometimes worry a bit about Wim and Margaret being so far from us but now I know they have scores of friends who are looking out for them day and night, who will be willing to drop everything and venture out into the cold to help. You guys are pure class, thank you, and next time I’m in the Moon, I’ll buy you all pint!”
This morning (3/2/16) from Margaret about her experience in finding her Husband Vim last night:
“I just want to say how totally amazing the Banbury Police were yesterday evening dealing with Wim’s disappearance . They sprung into action within 10 mins of my call at 6.30pm & their support was amazing. The Hospital too when he went in for a thorough check up, 6 hours later. These people get such a lot of bad press but I thought I should mention how totally dedicated & kind they all were.”
Thanks to Natasha from The Red Lion for calling me after she had received a call, I posted the Neighbourhood Alert and connected to the Hanwell Community alert. What a wonderful demonstration of community spirit working with the Emergency Services and combined with social media. So glad that Vim was found so that Margaret and their family and friends could sleep easily last night, I know I did Rgds Debra
