All times not mentioned are normal trading hours
Friday 18th December 2015 – Sh*t Christmas Draw:
They said it wouldn’t last but this long standing tradition continues to it’s second year. Dozens of prizes to be had in this spectacular Christmas raffle. Will the festive fairies have something in their stockings for you this year?
Sunday 20th December 2015 – Sunday Christmas Cracker:
Half Music / Half Torture. The lovely Katie Wickham will delight us with her acoustic charm and seasonal tunes. This will be followed by Kristmas Karaoke. The Lion’s clientele will attempt some festive favourites. The music starts at 3pm, those with delicate ears might want to depart before 4.30pm.
Tuesday 22nd December – Christmas Poker:
There’s extra cash to be won in the final games of the year. Places are very limited so please ask at the bar for full details. Game 1 8.15pm. Game 2 10pm.
Christmas Eve – Open 4pm – 10.30pm:
Sorry, there’s no party to be found here. Mulled wine, log fires and Christmas Carols set the tone. Fine ale and good cheer to be had aplenty; last orders are strictly 10.30pm, so we can all be in bed when Father Christmas comes.
Christmas Day – Open 12 – 2pm:
The place to come for pre-dinner drinks. CAMRA’s pub of the year invites you for a glass of Christmas cheer – what better place to show off that that new jumper and entice others with the smellies that Granny bought?
Boxing Day – Open 12 – 4.30pm Races:
A tradition now – it’s horse racing all the way. Enjoy the delights of Kempton Park on the large HD TV. The big race is the King George VI at 3.10pm. Can Silviniaco Conti do it again or will his (Cue) Card be marked. Always a top day in The Red Lion – don’t miss it!
Boxing Day – Open 7 – 11pm Board Games:
Trying something different this year. Board games will be available (or bring your own) and join in to find out who’s the top Monopoly trader. I’ll be the Car!
Wednesday 30th December – Dominoes Pairs:
All Dominoes players are invited to play. Pairs will be made in a random draw. It’s £2 to enter with the prize money going to the finalists. Always very popular with the league players – there’s a maximum of 32 places, so please book early.
Thursday 31st December – New Year’s Eve – Private Party
It’s ticket only for the party of the year. This year we’re going back to the 80’s. Fancy Dress is encouraged but by no means obligatory. There’ll be a buffet and 80’s disco, plus the ever popular ‘Play Your Cards Right’. it’s gonna be a big night…
Friday 1st January 2016 – New Years Day – Open 12.30 – 6pm:
Starting the year with a Sunday Session – although strictly speaking, it’s a Friday! It has become a tradition over the years, with the pub still set up in party mode anything can happen. Some years it’s a chill-out hangover cure and some years it starts off chill-out and ends up a full on rave behind closed doors! Which one this year? With the landlord now (just) in his fifties, the wise money is on the former.
Saturday 2nd January 2016 – Quiz – That Was The Year That Was:
It is quite literally the Quiz of the Year. Test your knowledge on the events of the past twelve months. The quiz will start at 8pm but please arrive a lot earlier to guarantee a seat.
All times not mentioned are normal trading hours – See Village Calendar
Once again Dave and Natasha would like to wish all their Customers a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year

End of Cricket Season Update 2015
It’s always sad when the season ends and it takes a few weeks to get used to not being there! During the season there are lots of volunteers who do a tremendous amount of work at the Club and it is much appreciated, however there are still jobs to be done and people are still pottering about at the ground.
Following the end of season and our AGM on Sunday 15th November, both senior teams will play in the same leagues next year, the 1st team will be captained by Dave Eaton with Adam Webb as Vice Captain, the 2nd team will continue to be captained by Mark Tubb with Jamie Abbotts as Vice Captain, Rose Beck will take the lead on Sundays with assistance from others. Julian Wright will continue as Club Captain. All this is good news for the Club, but we would like to record our thanks to Dave Taylor and David Clark – outgoing 1st team Captain and Vice Captain respectively – for their hard work over the past few years. Dave Eaton who has captained the Sunday team for the last year will continue his good work in the 1st team.
The Junior teams had a fantastic year with 5 of the Juniors progressing to play in the Sunday team with 2 also playing in our 2nd team on a Saturday. This was great to see and part of our development plan is to ensure there is progression through the club for Juniors. They ended the season with the annual parents v children match, the weather was hot and a fair match ensued, at the end Mike Patching presented the trophies on behalf of the MHT Trust, the winners were:
U’11 The Whole team
U’13 Thomas Shaw
U’15 Henry Moon
Most dedicated cricketer Jessica Newport
We thank the Michael Hardinge Trust for their continued sponsorship of the Juniors, this year we have added their logo to the junior kit to highlight the hard work they do.
Our Dinner Dance was once again held at Bloxham School, a wonderful venue where the theme was the Great Gatsby, it was attended by 80 members of the Club and to see how much we enjoyed ourselves please look at the pictures on our website www.horleycc.co.uk
All our events and fixtures will be on our cricket website or via our village website in the New Year.
We wish you all a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year and thank you for all your support this season – we look forward to seeing you next season.
Kind regards, Judith
