Christingle Service at St Etheldreda’s Church this Sunday (1st December) at 5pm

‘We’re beginning to look forward to Christmas in Horley – with planning for our Annual Nativity & Carols service on December 22nd now under way.

This year,  at the beginning of the countdown to Christmas, we are also having a Christingle Service on Advent Sunday – 1st December.

If you’ve never heard of  a ‘Christingle’, this is a simple, joyful service suitable for all members of the family, centring around a gift of an orange with a candle and sweets, used to explain the significance of the birth we are looking ahead to.

Bring your children / mum / dad / grandparents – we’ll be taking a collection for the Children’s Society, a widely-respected charity which does brilliant work with children and teenagers who are in danger, have special needs, or who run away from abusive homes.’

I look forward to seeing you there,

Guy’

Christmas Presents for the Sunshine Centre

The Ironstone Benefice of eight churches has once again offered to provide Christmas presents for the children of The Sunshine  Centre in Banbury.

The Sunshine Centre was created to act as a hub for a range of family and childcare support services for the community in Bretch Hill and the surrounding area. It provides childcare for children from 3 months to 5 years, organises classes and courses for families in the community, and hosts a range of baby and toddler groups. It also partners with other organisations such as the NHS to provide weekly antenatal clinics.

Please could any presents donated be wrapped in Christmas paper and labelled stating the age of the child (0-5 years) that they would be best suited to.  Please don’t spend more than £5 to £10 per present.

If you would like to contribute, please bring presents to one of the services at St Etheldreda’s on Sunday 1st December (the 11am morning service or the 5pm Christingle service) – or give to either of the clergy (Alicia or Guy).

Thank you from the staff and children of The Sunshine Centre.

Harvest Crafts – here are the creations!

Here are some of the colourful creations we came up with in our fun-filled harvest festival morning at St Etheldreda’s on 6th October.  I’d wondered how our local children would do with a very free-form craft project – making creatures out of vegetables, but the imagination and creativity on display in the photos here speaks for itself.  We had a fantastic time and enjoyed worshipping tother at the harvest service afterwards with traditional harvest hymns and the children contributing to the service.  Thanks to all who came for making it such a fun and meaningful event.‘ Guy Edwards – Associate Priest.

Harvest Crafts and and Service at St Etheldreda’s Church this Sunday (6th October)

‘Creativity Fun and worship combine at St Etheldreda’s this Sunday. From 10.00 we’ll be turning the harvest of fruit and veg into extravagant and colourful creatures – at 10.45 we break for tea and cake, and then re-gather for our Harvest festival worship at the usual time of 11.00.  Expect your favourite harvest hymns and a presentation of harvest gifts. Joy, worship and creativity for all ages – but children especially in mind.’ Rev’d Guy Edwards

Please bring donations of dried or tinned food for the foodbanks in Banbury to the Church, on or before Sunday.

Progressive dinner – another host and more puddings needed!

Due to a fantastic number of guests at this year’s Progressive Dinner on 10th August, we now need a further host to accommodate everyone. If you could possibly help please call or message Vanessa on 07899 755700.

As you may be aware we are changing things up a bit at this year’s Progressive Dinner and everyone is meeting up at The Old School after the main course for drinks and pudding.

We have had a number of kind offers already but need a further 6 puddings. If anyone else can offer, even if you are not able to join us on the night, please call or message Julie on 07849929661. We would really appreciate it and of course all proceeds go to the upkeep of the church.

Progressive dinner – Saturday 10th August

Rachel and Vanessa have already had a great response from the village regarding guests for the Horley Progressive Dinner and those who have been kind enough to host.

They say: ‘Do let us know as soon as possible if you are hoping to attend so we can finalise numbers in good time.

As you may be aware we are changing things up a bit this year and having pudding and drinks back at The Old School.

If you would be able to provide a pudding we would be very grateful, all calories will be used up walking up the hill so the more the merrier!’

Please contact Rachel on curds64@btinternet.com or Vanessa on keenevanessa@gmail.com
