Harvest Crafts and and Service at St Etheldreda’s Church this Sunday (6th October)

‘Creativity Fun and worship combine at St Etheldreda’s this Sunday. From 10.00 we’ll be turning the harvest of fruit and veg into extravagant and colourful creatures – at 10.45 we break for tea and cake, and then re-gather for our Harvest festival worship at the usual time of 11.00.  Expect your favourite harvest hymns and a presentation of harvest gifts. Joy, worship and creativity for all ages – but children especially in mind.’ Rev’d Guy Edwards

Please bring donations of dried or tinned food for the foodbanks in Banbury to the Church, on or before Sunday.

Progressive dinner – another host and more puddings needed!

Due to a fantastic number of guests at this year’s Progressive Dinner on 10th August, we now need a further host to accommodate everyone. If you could possibly help please call or message Vanessa on 07899 755700.

As you may be aware we are changing things up a bit at this year’s Progressive Dinner and everyone is meeting up at The Old School after the main course for drinks and pudding.

We have had a number of kind offers already but need a further 6 puddings. If anyone else can offer, even if you are not able to join us on the night, please call or message Julie on 07849929661. We would really appreciate it and of course all proceeds go to the upkeep of the church.

Progressive dinner – Saturday 10th August

Rachel and Vanessa have already had a great response from the village regarding guests for the Horley Progressive Dinner and those who have been kind enough to host.

They say: ‘Do let us know as soon as possible if you are hoping to attend so we can finalise numbers in good time.

As you may be aware we are changing things up a bit this year and having pudding and drinks back at The Old School.

If you would be able to provide a pudding we would be very grateful, all calories will be used up walking up the hill so the more the merrier!’

It is such a lovely evening and the perfect way to connect with your neighbours, a big part of what makes our village so special.

Clear your diaries and book your babysitters.

Numbers increase every year so let’s see if we can make this a record breaking one.

10 Year Anniversary of Horley Bells

It’s 10 years this month since the bells in St Etheldreda’s Church were rung for the first time after a 25 year period of silence.  Prior to February 2014, it hadn’t been possible to ring the bells as they had been declared unsafe for ringing due to water damage to the ancient wooden frame.

After a fantastic fundraising effort in 2012 – 2013 led by Mike Patching, the bell frame was restored and two new bells were cast and installed to supplement the original four bells.

We will be ringing the bells to celebrate this 10 year anniversary next Saturday 17th February between 2pm and 4pm.

Listen out – or better still, come and along and see the bells being rung. We have put a camera in the bell chamber so you will be able to see the bells in action as well as the ringers !
