This lighter was found on the road opposite Horley House on Sunday May 5th.
Please call Kate on 07791 399227 if you think it is yours.
This meeting (which follows on from the AGM at 7.00), is intended to provide an opportunity to let you all know what is going on.
There will be reports from the Council and other local groups and organisations, like the Cricket Club and Michael Hardinge Trust. If anyone would like to have a specific topic added to the agenda, please email the Parish Clerk, David Marriott on horleyparishclerk@btinternet.com.
This is an open meeting at which you are invited to raise any issues of concern. It’s your opportunity to tell the Parish Council what you think they could do for the village.
We are pleased to announce the return of
A vocal group of 8 unaccompanied singers from Nottingham, including our own Chris Howell.
They will perform arrangements of mostly lighter music such as Spirituals, Madrigals & Folk-songs.
A message to Horley residents on behalf of the Parish Council
Concerns have been raised with the Parish Council regarding items being placed on highway verges, which might comprise an obstruction. The Council is aware of a number of places around the village where items have been placed on highway verges, and queries have been raised as to whether this is legal.
Highway verges are the responsibility of the County Council, and the County Council have advised that in most cases the public highway includes the verge, and extends up to the boundary of the adjoining land. Anything placed permanently on the highway may potentially comprise an obstruction, and to obstruct the highway is an offence. Before placing anything permanently on the highway, people are advised to contact the County Council seeking permission to do so. If an accident were to occur, such as a car swerving onto the verge to avoid an oncoming vehicle, and colliding with an obstruction, the person placing the obstruction is likely to be liable.
From Chris Woodcock (of Studio B Hornton):
‘Everything you need to know is on Art History Talks programme 2019-1 Our speakers, (who include jane Williams from Horley), are all local experts and we’re aiming for each session to be very informal and friendly, with plenty of chance for questions and discussion. There will be a break in each event for brunch refreshments and the overall running time will be no more than two hours, starting promptly at 11am.
Each speaker has nominated their favourite charity to receive the proceeds from their talk and they will say a bit about their choice on the day.
I know August seems ages away, but it would be really handy if you could tell me asap (before the end of April) if you would definitely like to attend so I can reserve places and know how things are shaping up. If you would like to invite your friends then do feel free to ask them to get in touch too.
Feeling in need of a drink over the weekend…?
The Cricket Club bar will be open from 6pm – 11pm on Friday and Saturday evening. Everyone is welcome.

The Red Lion Closes from today (23rd April) and reopens at 6pm on Thursday May 2nd to enable Dave and Natasha to enjoy a well deserved break and enjoy a holiday in Hong Kong to celebrate 25 years of wedded bliss!
Congratulations to an amazing couple who work tirelessly to please their clientele and maintain their sanity! This effort has also resulted in their being awarded the Runners Up prize for the North Oxon Pub of the Year 2019.
Well Done Dave and Natasha!
