Message of Thanks to the Village
A message of thanks to Horley Villagers from Jane and Jonathan Williams:
‘We would like to thank the village for their wonderful contribution to our daughter Harriet’s wedding to Harry.
Thank you to:
- Everyone who helped to prepare the church and the churchyard.
- Those that gave drinks, biscuits, conversation, encouragement and compliments to Juliet as she arranged the flowers in the church.
- The Michel Hardinge Trust for the loan of tables, chairs, tea urns etc.
- The Taylors for straw bales for around the fire-pits
- The Duck in Lane Close for dressing up for the event
- Roger for loaning us his field so that everyone could park
- To the Red Lion for watering some of our guests
- Alison and John for their storage facilities
- All those who offered us additional parking
- Those who offered beds for guests
- Charles and David who played the organ and piano in church
- Those villagers that came and watched and gave reassurance and support as we came to and left the church
- The bellringers
- John Reader for his support before and during the service.
- All of those that didn’t complain about the music (indeed we know some of you joined with the dancing from the comfort of your own homes) or the traffic jams in the road in the early hours as our guests left our amazing village.
And of course anyone else who we have forgotten.
We are truly grateful to be part of such a wonderful community.’

Over £1450 Raised for KHH at the Open Garden Day!
The following is a message from Anne Owen, who was the instigator and organiser of a very successful Open Garden Event in aid of Katherine House Hospice on 30th June.
(Below that is a certificate and letter from KHH).
HORLEY OPEN GARDENS – SUNDAY,30 JUNE 2019
Dear All,
I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the owners who responded to my call to open their gardens to raise money for Katharine House Hospice – Glenys & David, Brian & Sue, Jane & Jonathan, Charles & Kate, David & Di and Christiane. I know at times the task of getting the gardens ready seemed insurmountable but all of you did such a fantastic job that “The 1st Horley Open Gardens Event” raised an amazing £1458.36p. Due to your generosity of time, spirit and hard work in your gardens this event was the success it was.
The success of the day was possible, due not only the commitment of the gardeners but also to those who volunteered to make a huge variety of cakes for the event – Edna, Rita, Sue A, Sue P, Sue R, Sandra, Jane, Di, Jenny, so an enormous THANK YOU to you all. Another big THANK YOU goes to those who helped out at the gardens on the day showing people around, discussing the plants, selling plants and making & serving teas, Sue R, Sue H and Alison. The manning of the plant stall at The School House by Nick and Wendy Crosse (from Katharine House Hospice) was also greatly appreciated as was the generous amount of plants provided for sale, so a big THANK YOU to Caroline.
I hope you all enjoyed the event as much as those who visited the gardens did and would like to do this again, maybe in 2021?
Anne Owen
