Preparations are well underway for the May Day Celebrations in Hornton

may dayThe W.I. are planning a jam jar stall, where exciting goodies in a beautifully wrapped jam jar can be bought for just £1. If you have any items you would like to donate to the stall, please see any member of the W.I. ASAP. Better still, wrap up your jam jar, containing the goodies and take it along to the WI stall on Monday May 4 or to Emma Hamer (Meadowsweet Farm). The stall should be up and running between 1– 4. Children’s gifts are also needed; these will sell at just 50p. There will also be lots of promotional information available, as well as this year’s programme, so if the WI has always interested you, but you’ve never managed to get involved, come along and meet some of the local group and find out what they get up to.

Horley Ladies Carry the WI Centenary Baton

WI HorleyThe W.I. celebrates its centenary during 2015. There are lots of events to mark this milestone, one of which happened on our doorstep on Saturday April 18. The Centenary baton, which is traveling through the whole of the UK was handed over to the local WI group at a picnic lunch at Broughton Castle. It was a free event and members and their guests were asked to dress in 1915 style, there were a couple of suffragettes. Everyone brought their own picnic to enjoy in the castle grounds. A wonderful day was had by all. Many thanks to Lord and Lady Saye and Sele for their hospitality.
