Local Tip to Close for 2 Days in March

The Alkerton tip is to close for 2 days for cleaning and essential maintenance on Tuesday March 3rd and Wednesday 4th. For more information on this and other centres in the area see below.

Reporting Storm Incidents

Reporting weather related incidents over the weekend as storm Denis hits the UK

The following are numbers provided by the Emergency Planning department of Oxfordshire County Council that you can call to report weather related issues if you become aware of them.

  • To report fallen tree’s or other debris which pose a risk to your safety or the safety of others, please call 999
  • To report fallen tree’s or other debris which doesn’t pose such a high risk but still needs to be dealt with, please call 101
  • If you lose power or can see that a power line has come down please report it by calling 105
  • If you are concerned about flooding, you should visit the Oxfordshire Flood Toolkit online –https://www.oxfordshirefloodtoolkit.com – and I will summarise the key numbers to call below:
  • If you have a flooding emergency which is a threat to someone’s life, contact Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service on 999
  • To report flooding relating to a highway such as blocked ditches, blocked drains or flooding on a road call Oxfordshire County Council Floodline on 0345 310 1111
  • To report flooding from a main river contact the Environment Agency through the Floodline (Tel: 0345 988 1188 or 0800 80 70 60) or visit their website
  • If your property is at immediate risk of surface water flooding please contact Thames Valley Police on 101

Volunteers needed for Restore in Banbury

The next Parish Council Meeting will take place at 7.30 on Thursday January 16th in the Old School Room. The meeting is open to the public, and if anyone wishes to address the Council on any of the items on the agenda, please notify David Marriott on  0787 2930030 or email horleyparishclerk@btinternet.com before the meeting. Whilst there is no absolute right to do this, the Chairman has the authority to permit it if he chooses to do so.

VE Day 8th May 2080

Advance Notice of Significant Event in 2020

8 May 2020 is the 75th anniversary of VE day, the day in 1945 when the second world war in Europe finally came to an end.  The armed forces charity, SSAFA, are planning activities to mark the occasion, and are encouraging members of the public and community groups to become involved.  They have written to Horley Parish Council asking for the Council’s assistance in publicising the event.

SSAFA are asking for church bells to be rung at 7.00pm on Friday the the 8th, and that church services of commemoration be held on Sunday the 10th.  In between they encourage communities to celebrate the anniversary through parties and other such community events.  If anyone is interested in becoming involved, or organising a community event, they are recommended to visit the SSAFA website set up for this anniversary at www.veday.org.

Reminder – Hornton Lane To Be Closed from Monday

Hornton Lane to be closed from Monday September 30th for up to 2 weeks.

Oxfordshire County Council have arranged the closure of this road in order to deal with the badger sett undermining the road. The closure is from 30 September for up to 2 weeks.

The works taking place are between Glebe Farm and the Millers Lane junction into Hornton. Provision will be made for pedestrians and cyclists only to pass through the working area. OCC will be arranging for appropriate signage to be erected, including a diversion to avoid the works. Hornton Lane to be closed from Monday September 30th thru Monday October 14th

Oxfordshire County Council have arranged the closure of this road in order to deal with the badger sett undermining the road. Although the closure is from 30 September until 14 October it is likely to be reopened as soon as the work is completed.

The works taking place are between Glebe Farm and the Millers Lane junction into Hornton.  OCC will be arranging for appropriate signage to be erected, including a diversion to avoid the works.

New Parish Councillor Wanted

As a result of the resignation of Jennifer Cross, there is now a vacancy on Horley Parish Council.  Formal notice relating to this vacancy has been published by the Returning Officer at Cherwell District Council .

Shortly the Council expects to be looking for someone who is interested in becoming a Councillor. Would you like to  represent our village and continue to help make Horley a great place to live?
