Gary Fox

As most of you will have heard, Gary died unexpectedly from a heart attack on the morning of Wednesday 10th.

I take immense comfort from the fact that he knew I was with him and that it all happened quickly. I also know that both the incredible team of emergency paramedics and doctors, as well as myself did everything we could to try to save Gary. A team of 7 arrived very quickly in ambulances and by helicopter, providing emergency care for Gary at home and to the John Radcliff Hospital where he sadly passed away.

We have been overwhelmed by the love that the village has shown to us, from your messages, flowers, food and offers of help. In time we hope to be able to spend time with you, and take you up on these offers. It has really shown us what living in a community like ours is really about.

We have decided to have a private cremation and when we are able, will get together with small groups of friends and family to share our memories.

For now, we are looking forward to September when Grant gets married and Lauren starts her final year at University.

Thank you for your love and support

Anyone Missing A Tabby???

A rather nice Tabby Cat has been frequenting our garden and drive over the past 2 weeks. Unfortunately he has no collar or name tag and we are just concerned that he may be lost or even abandoned. We wondered if anyone knew anything about him?

The Horton General Needs YOU – You Can Make a Difference See How

THIS COULD BE OUR BIGGEST FIGHT EVER

Consultant-led maternity, 24/7 Childrens Ward, Special Care Baby Unit, A&E, medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, and the Critical Care Unit are all under threat. See the Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust’s “emerging options” link:- http://www.cherwell.gov.uk/media/pdf/n/s/CPN_Agenda___Meeting_doc_140616.pdf)

Keep the Horton General campaigners, midwives, SCBU staff, members of the public and local GPs have publicly come out against the options.

“What can I do?”

The MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do right now is to write to the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, via your GP at your local doctor’s surgery, and tell them why we need the full services of a General Hospital in Banbury (ie one that provides all the above mentioned services.) You might consider safety, cost, travel difficulties, the growing population, and the effect on the lower income and disadvantaged families. If you can illustrate your email or letter with a personal experience, that will make it more powerful.

Copy your GP letter to your MP and to us at keepthehortongeneral@hotmail.co.uk

Warwick Road Planned Closure Number of Days Reduced

Thanks for your efforts Horley Parish Council and other affected villages we have now a reduction from 8 weeks to 2 weeks that the road will be closed. Here the email from the contractors and a copy of the letter from Thames Water:

Good afternoon,
I am writing to send you the enclosed update letter regarding our revised plans to close Warwick Road.
We have been able to reduce the duration from eight weeks to two and will hope to improve on that.
I realise that the diversion route is not ideal and understand concerns raised but we have a bit more time to resolve some of those issues now.
I would be most grateful if you would please circulate this information among your parishes.

Complete This Survey To Help Keep Vital Services at The Horton General

Could you please spend a few minutes to complete survey link below. The Oxfordshire University Hospital Trust, has launched a on line survey, to establish what services are required at the Banbury Horton Hospital. They have only aimed this survey at the 900 or so OUHFT registered members, mostly elderly trust members.

We fear, that this survey is designed, to get the desired result, to back up their decision to downgrade the Horton, to a day case unit.

Keep The Horton General Group, are extending the survey to all the Horton catchment area users. You may be aware, that there are plans afoot, to once again downgrade, Consultant led Maternity/Children’s services/Special Care Baby Unit/Paediatrics/Obstetrics/ 24hr Children’s ward, at the Banbury Horton Hospital.

Please click on, and complete survey below, then please forward to your contacts list, asking that they also complete survey, and forward to their contacts list. (Local)

Thanking You. Keith Strangwood. Chairman KTHG.

Remarkable Achievement for Cricket Pavilion Fundraising

HCCHCC Pavilion plans-front

Way beyond the wildest expectations here’s the July Fundraising Update:

Sunday 10th July 2016 was a pretty remarkable day at Horley Cricket Club, apart from one early light shower, the sun shone all day. The club came together across all playing age groups, social members, supporters and villagers to raise on total over £2,500 for the new pavilion fund – way beyond the wildest expectations of the Fundraising Committee.

The day further emphasised what a great club this is and how it richly deserves the new facilities that it will eventually get.

There are too many people for the Fundraising Committee to thank so huge apologies in advance for those names missing off this list but here goes in no particular order(!): Ross; Terry; Clive; James; Jamie; Claire; Richard; Mark; Sue Row; Sue Row’s sister; Rosie; all juniors who played in the morning and all parents who supported them; all those that offered Promises for the Auction and all those that bought Promises; all who offered items for sale that have been held over for an auction of physical items later in the season; all 1st & 2nd team players that both played and supported; and finally thanks to playing friends of Horley from Long Compton CC and Sibford CC and their families.

A very high benchmark has been set and we now have a stockpile of physical items to auction later in the season. We’ve had new ideas for Fundraising including a Cheese and Wine Winter Evening – which will happen. Please keep the ideas coming. We are continuing positive funding discussions with ECB, OCB, CDC and Sport England but these processes are typically quite slow – bear with us. Many have asked when we can start to see some of the ‘Batometer’ on the pavilion beginning to be coloured in – watch this space!

Some more dates for your diary are below.

Fri 22nd July Summer Games Evening
Sat 13th Aug V.I.P. Pimms & Presecco evening
Sun 14th Aug Presidents Day
Mon 29th Aug Children’s Fundraising Day

  • Friday from 6:00
  • Saturday and Sunday 2pm onwards

Please feel free to come along have a drink and watch some cricket
