Next Parish Council Meeting – Thursday April 13th
The next Parish Council Meeting will take place at 7.30 on Thursday April 13th in the Old School Room. The meeting is open to the public, and if anyone wishes to address the Council on any of the items on the agenda, please notify David Marriott on 0787 2930030 or horleyparishclerk@btinternet.com before the meeting. Whilst there is no absolute right to do this, the Chairman has the authority to permit it if he chooses to do so.

New Thames Valley Alert App launched
New Thames Valley Alert App launched

Thames Valley Police is delighted to announce that the Thames Valley Alert App has been launched and is free to download now https://www.thamesvalleyalert.co.uk/
The app, which is available on iPhone and Android, can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play and allows you to receive instant notifications to your phone on the latest policing alerts in your area (please note that you must enable push notifications to receive these).
The app can use GPS data to send you targeted messages according to your current geographical location and messaging preferences, sending you instant notifications to your mobile phone about specific information, warnings and advice relevant to that location.
The app offers a number of other features, including allowing you to quickly locate your closest police station, and also provides a feed of the latest Thames Valley-wide news on Twitter, so you’ll never miss those important Force-wide updates and breaking news. This facility is available on the app even if you do not have a Twitter account.
Please note that you do not have to download the app to get alerts; you can still choose to receive alerts via email, text or voicemail. To download the app, visit the Apple store or Google Play and search ‘Thames Valley Alert’.
Village Alert: Notice Anything Suspicious on Sunday Evening ?
Last Sunday evening (March 26th) a car parked on Church Lane and one in Little Lane were both broken into.
If you saw any suspicious activity in this area please report it to Thames Valley Police on 101.
The Future of Local Government in North Oxfordshire
Those who take an interest in such matters will be aware that Oxfordshire County Council have submitted a proposal to the Secretary of State for Communities, seeking the abolition of all district councils in Oxfordshire, along with the county council, and their replacement with a single, unitary council which would be responsible for delivering all local government services. Currently, the county deliver most of the more expensive services such as social services including adult care, highways and education, whilst the districts deliver more local services such as planning, housing, waste collection, street cleaning and recreation.
The county council claim that this could enable savings of up to £20m per annum to be made, mostly through efficiencies from the reduction in administrative and democratic functions. There is no doubt that the county council are in considerable financial difficulties, with increasing demand for adult care, and decreasing grant coming from government. On the other hand, Cherwell District Council have just announced for the 8th year running that they are not increasing their share of the council tax, having cut their costs significantly through efficiencies such as shared working with South Northants, and have not had to cut any of their services.
Cherwell are seeking support in their bid to persuade the Secretary of State not to agree to Oxfordshire’s proposal, and have launched a petition, which they have asked the parish council to share with you. Further details are available via this link.

We’re Jammin’ For Gary
We’re Jammin’ for Gary to celebrate the many roles of The Fantastic Mr. Fox and fund raising for Thames Valley Air Ambulance as they landed on our Cricket Field to help him.
One of the many roles Gary played was that of a “Pied Piper”; he managed to get so many children and adults to join in the concerts that we started in Horley. Gary loved reggae and a strong bassline, so its “gonna be all about the bass” and “we’re jammin’, jammin’, we hope you like jammin’, too.
This event will also raise awareness for both the “Hands off Horton” Hospital campaign and the Youth Offending Service, both of which were very important to Gary.

You can make it with fabric or paper and put on it all the things that mean ‘Easter’ to you.
We will display them in church from Easter Sunday (April 16th) and there will be Easter Eggs for all participants!
