Christmas Activities at Hornton’s Studio B

Getting into the Christmas arty-crafty spirit at Studio B

Two festive events are coming up at Studio B in Hornton, both designed to get art lovers and craft makers in the festive spirit…

Creatures and Crafts is the title of Studio B’s first art show and sale on the weekend of 23 and 24 November, 11am to 4pm daily. Entry is free and you get to see the work of five local artists, ranging from ceramics and screen printing to drawings, paintings, textile art and handmade Christmas decorations. There will also be bags, scarves, accessories and toys and a range of greetings cards. (See poster below).

Four of the five participants have been tutors at Studio B’s first year of practical workshops this year. The final workshop of 2019 takes place on Tuesday 3 December – Make Your Own Wall Hanging Twig Christmas Tree! Jane Moffatt of Burdrop leads the session. This second ‘twiggy tree’ event has been set up as the first one sold out back in the early summer! It runs 11am to 3.30pm and includes a light veggie lunch, all for £28pp. Three places available in a group of six. See details below.

Horley’s Dame Picks Her Favourite Desert Island Discs

Horley’s very special Dame, Glenys Kyle, (of Rowarth House opposite the church), appeared on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs on Sunday, choosing 8 of her favourite discs and 1 luxury item with which she would chose to be cast away.

It is an illuminating programme, where Glenys (who is publicly known as Dame Glenys Stacey) talks about various experiences of her life from childhood through 40 years of public service, where her last post was as her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Probation.

To listen to Dame Glenys’ castaway interview on BBC Catch up and hear about the work which earned her a damehood (as well as her thwarted dalliance with T Rex!), click here.

Charity Quiz Raises Over £600!

Well done to the Ladies Guild who raised £623.75 for the charity Breast Cancer Now in the recent Family Charity Quiz.

A Big Thank You to everyone involved – including the organisation and the generous bidding for the auction prizes.

Congratulations to ‘The Apprentices’, the winning team!
