Local Tip to Close for 2 Days in March

The Alkerton tip is to close for 2 days for cleaning and essential maintenance on Tuesday March 3rd and Wednesday 4th. For more information on this and other centres in the area see below.

Reporting Storm Incidents

Reporting weather related incidents over the weekend as storm Denis hits the UK

The following are numbers provided by the Emergency Planning department of Oxfordshire County Council that you can call to report weather related issues if you become aware of them.

  • To report fallen tree’s or other debris which pose a risk to your safety or the safety of others, please call 999
  • To report fallen tree’s or other debris which doesn’t pose such a high risk but still needs to be dealt with, please call 101
  • If you lose power or can see that a power line has come down please report it by calling 105
  • If you are concerned about flooding, you should visit the Oxfordshire Flood Toolkit online –https://www.oxfordshirefloodtoolkit.com – and I will summarise the key numbers to call below:
  • If you have a flooding emergency which is a threat to someone’s life, contact Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service on 999
  • To report flooding relating to a highway such as blocked ditches, blocked drains or flooding on a road call Oxfordshire County Council Floodline on 0345 310 1111
  • To report flooding from a main river contact the Environment Agency through the Floodline (Tel: 0345 988 1188 or 0800 80 70 60) or visit their website
  • If your property is at immediate risk of surface water flooding please contact Thames Valley Police on 101

Village Thefts From Garden Sheds

Be On the Lookout for Suspicious Activity. 

Be Aware – thieves have been visiting the garden sheds during the night of the 12th / 13th at the bottom of the gardens on the east side of Gulliver’s Close.

Horley Rector to Give Final Service on Sunday 16th

Final Church Service to be given by John Reader on Sunday 16th Feb at 3pm.

John Reader, Rector of the Ironstone Benefice, of which St Etheldreda’s is a member, will be retiring this month and giving his final service in St Etheldreda’s on Sunday February 16th at 3pm.

Tea will be available afterwards in the Old School.

MHT Talk Next Friday by the Royal Navy Presentation Team

The Royal Navy Presentation Team will be giving the first MHT talk of the year in the Old School on Friday February 7th at 7.30. Tickets are £5 and available by calling 01295 730039.

Please try to book in good time and no tickets will be sold on the door.

New Yoga Class in Hornton

Want to feel uplifted, more relaxed and positive?

Horley’s very own Kundalini Yoga teacher, Anne Owen, invites you to join her in her new Kundalini Yoga and Meditation sessions which are being held in Hornton Pavilion on Friday afternoons at 2.00.

Anne says: ‘Kundalini Yoga is known as the yoga of awareness. It combines breathing techniques, physical exercises, mantra and meditation into a single practice. Kundalini Yoga works very quickly and most people feel uplifted, more relaxed and positive after a single session. It also makes you feel alive & vibrant as well as encouraging a greater sense of calmness, vitality & purpose in life.

Come along & give it a try – I think you’ll like it!’

Mats, cushions & blankets provided (feel free to bring your own though). Wear comfy loose clothing and don’t eat a meal 2-3 hours before the class.

Volunteers needed for Restore in Banbury

Would you like to volunteer to help people recover from mental health issues?

‘Wonderful Villages’ Photo Competition

A great chance to win £1000 for the Village Hall as well as £500 for the photographer!

The theme is ‘Village Life’, requiring a photo which captures the essence of ‘community’ rather than the prettiness or photographic skill. Next Parish Council Meeting is on Thursday January 16th

The next Parish Council Meeting will take place at 7.30 on Thursday January 16th in the Old School Room. The meeting is open to the public, and if anyone wishes to address the Council on any of the items on the agenda, please notify David Marriott on  0787 2930030 or email horleyparishclerk@btinternet.com before the meeting. Whilst there is no absolute right to do this, the Chairman has the authority to permit it if he chooses to do so.
