This year’s annual village litter pick has been cancelled by Cherwell District Council due to concerns over the Coronavirus.

Covid-19 – Be A Good Neighbour in Horley
‘As everyone cannot help but be aware, Covid-19 is here and poses a threat to all our health and wellbeing.
There is a wealth of official advice being issued on a regular basis, to which, as a Parish Council, we are unlikely to be able to add.
However, we believe we should do what we can to support the implementation of this advice, and ensure our community in Horley pulls together and looks out for our neighbours This especially important for those who may not have family or friends locally, and those who are vulnerable or elderly. We are looking to set up a group to keep an overview of the situation in the village and to coordinate whatever help is available If there are residents who feel isolated and worried.
To this end I have asked Glenys Stacey to put together a small group of residents representing different existing groups in the village who can work out what we can do and take appropriate action.
While this is being set up, any residents who have urgent concerns can make contact via the Parish Clerk, David Marriott.
Obviously, there is a lot to consider and we won’t be able to provide perfect solutions, but I sincerely hope this will help the village through these uncertain and difficult times. In the meantime, it is important that anyone who experiences the early symptoms (fever, cough) should self-isolate straight away and if possible, make neighbours aware of this.

Please Come and Help at Next Saturday’s Village Litter Pick
The annual village litter pick will take place at 10.00 on the morning of Saturday 21st March.
If you can spare some time to help out please could you gather in front of the Red Lion. Litter pickers, protective gloves and rubbish and recycling bags will be provided by CDC. If people have their own gloves, that would be great, as people are urged to protect themselves against any risk of infection, and take care to wash their hands thoroughly after the litter pick has been completed.

Neighbourhood Watch exists to look out for communities across England and Wales and at a time like this we encourage you to consider ways to keep yourself, your loved ones and those in your community safe, particularly the isolated and vulnerable. 10 ways you, as a Neighbourhood Watch supporter, can protect yourself, your loved ones and your community:
- Meet with household members, other relatives, friends and neighbours to discuss what to do if a COVID-19 outbreak occurs in your community and what the needs of each person will be.
- If your neighbourhood has a website or social media page, consider joining it to maintain access to neighbours, information, and resources. Alternatively, share phone numbers and email addresses particularly with those who are isolated or vulnerable.
- Consider establishing a ‘buddy’ system within your community to ensure everyone stays connected to COVID-19 related news, services and can receive support safely, such as essentials deliveries.
- Plan ways to care for those who might be at greater risk for serious complications.
- Choose a room in your home that can be used to separate sick household members from those who are healthy.

- Create a list of local organisations that you and your neighbours can contact in the event that one of you need access to information, healthcare services, support, or resources. Consider including organisations that provide mental health or counselling services, food, and other supplies.

- Learn about the emergency operations plan at your child’s school or childcare facility, and your employer’s emergency operations plan.
- Practice everyday preventive actions including regular hand washing.

Hornton Talk on London’s Black Cabs March 13th
Follow That Cab!
Have you ever wondered why the London taxi is so special and the service voted best in the world year after year?
The person who knows is Hornton’s Andrew Overton. Andrew’s grandfather founded the Mann & Overton company in 1899 ,commissioning and selling French cars, but from 1906 the family spent over 100 years in the business of making and selling London Taxis.
Andrew will give an illustrated talk about the development of Hackney Carriages through to the present day, with some interesting stories about his experiences in 41 years in the trade. He’ll also touch on the famous ‘Knowledge of London’ and the arguments about Uber.
And he’ll talk about the formation of a City of London Livery Company and its 25 years of organising London black cab trips to Disneyland for sick, terminally ill and chronically sick children.
Andrew will give the talk – The London Taxi….from Horse drawn to Electric taxis – at 7.30pm on Friday, March 13th in Hornton Parish Church.
The £5 ticket price will go to church funds and there will be an interval for wine and nibbles.

SOS For Needy Cat
Can anyone offer a kind heart and warm hearth to lovely nine-year-old female cat, Ruby, who is grieving for the loss of her owner?
BARKS don’t usually need to ask, so urgently, for a home for cats who come in under these circumstances – the elderly owner is gravely ill; but, when she came into our rescue centre, poor nine-year-old Ruby went downhill very rapidly, was refusing to eat and drink and had to go on a drip. She’s now with our foster carer and eating and drinking a little but still very nervous. The vet has advised that she can’t be kept in one of BARKS’ rescue centre pens and needs to be re-homed and adopted asap to get the TLC and one-to-one love she’s been used to.
She would need to be a lone pet and preferably with an owner who is around at home quite a bit.
If anyone feels they can help, please email Chris Woodcock in Hornton (chrisawoodcock@btinternet.com) in the first instance and then she’ll put you in touch with the local BARKS fosterer who has taken her in until they find her a permanent loving new home.

Reporting weather related incidents over the weekend as storm Denis hits the UK
The following are numbers provided by the Emergency Planning department of Oxfordshire County Council that you can call to report weather related issues if you become aware of them.
- To report fallen tree’s or other debris which pose a risk to your safety or the safety of others, please call 999
- To report fallen tree’s or other debris which doesn’t pose such a high risk but still needs to be dealt with, please call 101
- If you lose power or can see that a power line has come down please report it by calling 105
- If you are concerned about flooding, you should visit the Oxfordshire Flood Toolkit online –https://www.oxfordshirefloodtoolkit.com – and I will summarise the key numbers to call below:
- If you have a flooding emergency which is a threat to someone’s life, contact Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service on 999
- To report flooding relating to a highway such as blocked ditches, blocked drains or flooding on a road call Oxfordshire County Council Floodline on 0345 310 1111

Village Thefts From Garden Sheds
Be On the Lookout for Suspicious Activity.
Be Aware – thieves have been visiting the garden sheds during the night of the 12th / 13th at the bottom of the gardens on the east side of Gulliver’s Close.
