Voter ID required for local elections in May

From May 2023, electors will need to show photographic identification at polling stations before being given a ballot paper to vote.

The Elections Act 2022 means everyone in the Cherwell district who wants to vote in person at a polling station will need to show photo ID at all elections from Thursday 4 May 2023. If you are a proxy, meaning you vote on behalf of someone else, you will also need to show photo ID before you vote.

The following documents, including expired versions, will be accepted as long as the photo is a good enough likeness:

  • A passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, a European Economic Area (EEA) state or a Commonwealth country
  • Photographic drivers licence (full or provisional) issued by the UK, Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or an EEA state
  • EEA photographic ID card
  • UK Biometric Residence Permit
  • An identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (PASS card)
  • A blue badge
  • Oyster 60+ card
  • A concessionary travel pass funded by HM Government or local authority, such as Oxfordshire County Council Bus pass, disabled persons bus pass, Welsh or Northern Ireland travel card.

The full list of accepted photographic IDs is available via gov.uk.

You must take the original document with you to the polling station, a scanned version, electronic version or a copy will not be accepted.

Mothering Sunday – and Saturday

We had a brilliant, fabulous, fun morning getting ready for Mothering Sunday this Saturday at the Old Schoolhouse – Mums, Dads, children and members of St Etheldreda’s church exercised their creative skills making Mother’s Day pictures, posies and badges.

Many thanks to Sarah Allitt and Sarah Taylor for helping organise the event and providing flowers, and to Sue Ashdown, Kate Wythe & Fiona Taylor for extra support.

Here are some pictures to give a flavour of the event.

Tomorrow on Mothering Sunday March 19th we will be in church for a Mothering Sunday Holy Communion starting at 10:30am, with posies for mums/ grannies/ aunties &c.  Do come and join us as we celebrate and give thanks for Mums and all they are to us.
