End of Cricket Season Update 2015

View from Spring Field

View from Spring Field

It’s always sad when the season ends and it takes a few weeks to get used to not being there!  During the season there are lots of volunteers who do a tremendous amount of work at the Club and it is much appreciated, however there are still jobs to be done and people are still pottering about at the ground.

Following the end of season and our AGM on Sunday 15th November, both senior teams will play in the same leagues next year, the 1st team will be captained by Dave Eaton with Adam Webb as Vice Captain, the 2nd team will continue to be captained by Mark Tubb with Jamie Abbotts as Vice Captain, Rose Beck will take the lead on Sundays with assistance from others. Julian Wright will continue as Club Captain. All this is good news for the Club, but we would like to record our thanks to Dave Taylor and David Clark – outgoing 1st team Captain and Vice Captain respectively – for their hard work over the past few years. Dave Eaton who has captained the Sunday team for the last year will continue his good work in the 1st team.

The Junior teams had a fantastic year with 5 of the Juniors progressing to play in the Sunday team with 2 also playing in our 2nd team on a Saturday. This was great to see and part of our development plan is to ensure there is progression through the club for Juniors. They ended the season with the annual parents v children match, the weather was hot and a fair match ensued, at the end Mike Patching presented the trophies on behalf of the MHT Trust, the winners were:

U’11                                          The Whole team

U’13                                          Thomas Shaw

U’15                                          Henry Moon

Most dedicated cricketer            Jessica Newport

We thank the Michael Hardinge Trust for their continued sponsorship of the Juniors, this year we have added their logo to the junior kit to highlight the hard work they do.

Our Dinner Dance was once again held at Bloxham School, a wonderful venue where the theme was the Great Gatsby, it was attended by 80 members of the Club and to see how much we enjoyed ourselves please look at the pictures on our website www.horleycc.co.uk

All our events and fixtures will be on our cricket website or via our village website in the New Year.

We wish you all a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year and thank you for all your support this season – we look forward to seeing you next season.

Kind regards, Judith

Cricket End Of Season Update

It has been a very good year at the cricket club with only one match being lost to the weather, we continue until the second week in September then we close for the winter!

The Junior teams have played very well this year with the U’13s reaching the County Finals which will see them playing their final match in September, we wish them good luck. As ever our Tuesday evening coaching sessions have been well attended with nearly 70 children registered. We will hold our parents v children’s match on Sunday 6th September, 10am start with a BBQ and Trophy presentation to follow.

Both senior teams are mid league at present with only 2 matches left to play, the second team took a few matches to get used to the new format but have played well and should stay in Division 6 next year. The first team play in Division 3 and are mid table however anyone of 5 teams could currently be relegated so hopefully they will win one of their remaining matches to ensure safety.

The Sunday team have also had a good season, they have played a lot of matches and Dave Eaton the Sunday Captain has played and encouraged the Ul15’s during the games. We hope to see some of the young players in the second team next year.

Summer games evening was another enjoyable night, the competition to win races is great to see and our thanks go to Mike Patching and the team from the Michael Hardinge Trust and of course Noel Keenan for his chirpy encouragement in getting people to compete!

club house HCCLast Sunday was Presidents day and it was lovely to see so many people at the ground, we started earlier in the day, 12.30 and played a 40 over match, with the Horley XI winning narrowly by 2 wickets.

1 More Sleeps To Horley’s Ironstone Chamber Music Festival

Ironstone Concerts

IRONSTONE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

St Etheldreda’s Church, Horley  11th, 12th September 2015.

By now  you should have received a flyer through your door to advertise a wonderful weekend of music making here in Horley! A very professional team of musicians led by violinist Lucy Gould and her sister, ‘cellist Kate Gould has been assembled to play in the great acoustic of our Church. To add to that line up they have invited Craig Ogden, who is one of the foremost classical guitarists here in the UK! The first concert on Friday 11th Sept at 7.30, will include music by Schubert & Mendelssohn and Craig will join the string players for the entertaining Guitar Quintet by Boccherini, and a piece entitled Tango Sensations by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla.

Next day Saturday 12th at 12:30 Craig will give a one hour lunchtime recital in which he will play pieces as diverse as Bach to George Harrison and Django Reinhardt.

The final concert will be 7.30 pm on Saturday 12th September and will feature amongst others the marvellous String Quintet by Schubert, probably never played in his lifetime, and not published until 20 years after his early death.

When you hear this work, which is one of our “Desert Island” selections, we hope you may marvel at its sheer beauty!

To finish the weekend on Sunday 13th at 11.00 am we shall present a Choral Mass by Mozart.
