Hornton History Event August 26th – 28th

Countdown to the Past – Week 1!

Traditional crafts and country skills come to life at our Hornton history event on the August Bank Holiday weekend – Saturday 26 to Monday 28 August. 

Limbering up in the wings we have a posse of Hornton honey-makers (showing off bee hive care and honey ‘extraction in action’), our resident nimble-fingered felt-making expert, a master woodworker whose joints are second to none and stone masons and fossils galore.
 
They will all be at The Way We Were, based at the Pavilion on Bell Street. We’re into the last month of preparations for the event, which will also include a village trail, Memory Lane vintage café, Living Memories magazine and a see-and-touch exhibition. Entrance is free and it’s open 12 noon to 5pm each day, Saturday to Monday inclusive.
 
There really will be something for all the family – and we’ll tell you more about the other star attractions over the next three weeks…so keep reading these Countdown emails!
 
Hope to see you there. There will be plenty of Hornton and Horley memorabilia involved!

11am Church Service Next Sunday will be at Hornton

’11am Village Service next Sunday 23 July will not be taking place here at St Ethelrdedas; rather all  Horley parishioners are cordially invited to join with Hornton for an 11am village service at Hornton parish church.’

May Day Celebrations – Monday 2nd

may-poleAs is tradition Mayday celebrations will be held in Hornton on  Monday 2nd May starting at 1:00. The Village Green will have Children’s Rides, Toys, Games, Cakes, Pub and Bar-B-Q, “The Famous Human Fruit Machine”, Ladies and Gents Excellent Pre-Loved Clothes, Skittles, Tombola, Plants, the Amazing White Elephant Stall and other animals. As well as Tea and Cakes being served in The Chapel.

Then 2:00 The May Queen with her King and attendants will progress through the village to be crowned opposite the School, followed by Traditional Maypole Dancing. 

As Car Parking in the village will be difficult, it is best to approach Hornton from Wroxton down into Bell Street where ample free parking in the signposted Football Pavilion Car Park will be available.

Guides are Quackers for Horley

Judy in the dark1st Bodicote Guides would like to say  “Thank You for making us smile ” after we had walked 5 miles, in the dark when they saw Horley’s duck.

Last week on our night hike from Horley Scout camp to Hornton and back to camp before sleeping under canvas on the coldest night of the year so far.

Guides are quackers !

Horley and Horton Brownies Restarts- 29th February

1st Hornton and Horley Brownies will be starting again on Monday evenings beginning the 29th February.

Brownies is for girls aged seven to ten who become a member of a Six and follow a programme called the Brownie Adventure. Brownies opens up a world of exciting challenges and the opportunity to try new things and to make brilliant friends.
