Children’s Summer Camp

We are pleased to confirm that the Children’s Summer Camp is going to be running on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th August this year.

Here’s how to sign up:

and more details of what’s planned:

Horley Summer Fete – thank you!

A big thank you to everyone who came along to the Horley fete recently, and special thanks to Megan Bottoms who took some great photos of the event – see below.

As it’s clear from the photos, everyone seemed to be having a good time! The refreshments in the Old School were very popular (delicious cakes – thank you all the bakers!) and there was an excellent selection of stalls in the Church. What’s more, we raised a fantastic £2,300 for our Church and local charities, so thank you again!

Hornton & District W.I. – next meeting on 3rd July

Hornton & District’s next meeting is on Thursday 3rd July at 7.30pm in the Methodist Chapel, Hornton.

For our next meeting, we are delighted to welcome Hornton’s very own Roger Corke to our W.I. to talk about his writing life. Although a veteran TV documentary maker, Roger is now a published author, too, with his debut crime thriller , Deadly Protocol, recently being published. It’s about the murder of a scientist who is researching the Holy Grail of medicine – a cure for cancer.  Members will be able to hear all about the crime writing process, how to get a book published and most importantly, where Roger gets his inspiration from. Due to Roger’s popularity, non-members will be welcome to attend for a small donation to the W.I.

Last chance to book your place for the Progressive Dinner on 28th June

There has been a fantastic response to Horley’s Progressive Dinner which is taking place on 28th June.

It’s all set to be another great evening, especially if the weather stays like this!

If there is anyone who hasn’t put their name down please do so by this Saturday (21st) at  horleyprogressive@gmail.com

MHT Young photography competition – results

Well done to all the young photographers who entered the MHT’s young photography competition. There were some amazing photos and they are all on display in the School Hall if you’d like to take a look. The worthy winner was Chrissy, with this stunning photograph (now the Horley Views cover page!)

Thanks again to all the young photographers who took part.

Horley Summer Fete – tomorrow (14th June) from 2pm

Loads to do at the Horley fete tomorrow – here are just a few of the stalls in the Church. There are also refreshments in the Old School, plus home made cakes, tombola, wheel of fortune, great raffle prizes and lots of games including guess the weight of the tortoise!

Hornton Open Gardens – Sunday 29 June

On Sunday 29  June, come along and enjoy visiting the varied gardens of Hornton.   Teas, raffle and a plant stall. Proceeds to be shared equally between Katharine House Hospice and village causes.  Cash only.

You can visit ten very different gardens from small to extensive – with interesting features and planting. The Grade 1-listed parish church will be open to visitors and has an interesting  Medieval “doom” painting. The Victorian Methodist chapel and the village pub, The Dun Cow, on West End will also be open.

Tickets:  Combined entry to all the gardens £8, children free.  Cash only.  Tickets available on the village green opposite the post box.

Parking:  Disabled parking at the Methodist Chapel, Millers Lane, OX15 6BS. General parking at Hornton Pavilion (village hall), Bell Street, OX15 6DB.

Accessibility:   Parts of some gardens are wheelchair accessible. Please take great care in the gardens, especially if you are looking after children. Some gardens have uneven surfaces, steps, steep slopes and ponds/water features. Hornton stone is very slippery indeed when wet!

Dogs:  .On leads, please. Thank you for clearing up after your dog.

Refreshments: Teas and home-made cakes will be available in the garden of The Cottage in Church Lane, OX15 6BY.
