Village Litter Pick – Saturday 15th March at 10am

The annual village litter pick will take place on Saturday 15th March.

If you can spare half an hour or so to help out, please gather in front of the Old Post Office on the corner of Banbury Lane at 10:00 on 15th March.  Litter pickers, protective gloves and rubbish and recycling bags will be provided by CDC.  Please wear gloves (your own or those provided by CDC) to protect yourself against any risk of infection, and take care to wash your hands thoroughly after the Litter Pick has been completed.

Horley Parish Council Vacancy

The Horley Parish Council has a vacancy and is inviting applications from interested persons to sit on the Village Parish Council as a voluntary co-opted member until the elections in May 2026.

The Parish Council meets 5 times a year in the evening (normally a Thursday). Other meetings may be called if and when required. Between meetings communication is done mainly by email. The next meeting is on April 24th 2025.

The position holds full voting rights on issues relating to the village and its residents.

To qualify the person should be

  •  A British citizen, a Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of a European Union Country
  • Aged 18 or over
  • On the Parish electoral register or lived either in the parish or within three miles of its boundary for at least a year on April 24th 2025.
  • Not be the subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order or interim order.

Gigaclear presentation – Thurs 16th January 2025 at 6.30pm in the Old School

Representatives from Gigaclear will be in the Old School Hall from 6.30 pm on Thursday 16th January 2025 to talk about the up-coming works in Horley and to answer questions from villagers.  This is prior to the Parish Council meeting at 7:30 pm.

Notice of temporary road closure on Banbury Lane between 22nd and 24th January 2025

Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice – S14 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

Temporary Road Closure at Banbury Lane, Horley

A request has been received from Thames Water for a temporary road closure to apply to a length of Banbury Lane, whilst essential main clamp repair works are carried out.

A temporary Notice is being made by Oxfordshire County Council to implement the temporary restriction and will operate from 22/1/2025 up to and including 24/1/2025.

Please note that Notices for urgent works can last up to 5 consecutive days only.

A copy of the drawing showing the extent of the closure and also the alternative routes for traffic is attached.

Village defibrillator at the Red Lion is working again

The new defibrillator has arrived, been commissioned and placed in the cabinet on the wall of the Red Lion Public House.

In case of emergency please ring 999.

Village defibrillator is out of action

The village defibrillator at the Red Lion Public House is currently out of action.

After 10+ years the village De-Fib has developed irreparable faults with its AEDs.

The Parish Council is urgently seeking a replacement.

In the meantime, in case of emergency please ring 999.

Reminder: CPR & Defibrillator Training

There are still a few places available on the CPR and de-fib training next Monday. Details of how to book a place are below.

As you are probably aware, the village defibrillator is situated on the wall outside the Red Lion Public House. 

The Parish Council has arranged for some CPR and De-Fib training as follows:

Monday November 25th 2024 7pm to 9pm

The Old Schoolrooms, Horley

The training will include demonstrations and hands-on experience with a notice of attendance included. The evening is free, but any donations can be made to the South Central Ambulance Service who are arranging the training.

Spaces on the training course are limited, so if you wish to book a space please let Parish Clerk David Beck know as soon as possible: email  horleypc@gmail.com or tel 0785 2998172. Please include your own email address (for communication purposes – details will not be kept after the event).

Remember the quicker CPR is done the more chance of survival!

PARISH OF HORLEY

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972, that Kate Wythe has ceased to be a member of Horley Parish Council, and that a vacancy now exists in the office of Councillor for the said Parish Council.

In accordance with the Local Elections Rules an election to fill the vacancy shall be held if, within 14 days after the date of this notice (i.e. no later than 5 December 2024), a request for an election to fill the said vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer, Cherwell District Council, Bodicote House, Bodicote, Banbury OX15 4AA by TEN electors for the said Parish.

In the event that no such request is received by 5 December 2024 the vacancy will be filled by co-option.
