In the last few days there has been an extremely concerning increase in theft from motor vehicles overnight, specifically tools from work vans, around Oxfordshire. Reports thus far number 22 in the last 48 hours. Please consider removing your tools and other valuables from your vans overnight – the offenders appear well practised and vehicle alarms are not being triggered. The offenders are also concealing their identity. If you cannot empty your vans, please consider parking defensively, eg up against a wall, garage, or other vehicles to prevent access to your van.Now would be a good time to make sure any CCTV or video doorbells are charged and operating, but we would rather prevent the offences than be watching the footage of it with you. We know only too well, the impact that this is having on local residents. Please be vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles on 101. Any offences in progress or having just occurred should be reported on 999.A link to our crime prevention advice on our website is below:Keeping vehicles safe | Crime prevention | Thames Valley Police
A request has been received from Freeflow Traffic Management for a temporary road closure to apply to a section of Hornton Lane, whilst essential excavation to lay duct and build joint boxes / clear potential blockages works are carried out.
A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is being made to implement the temporary closure and will operate from 24/9/2024.
The estimated duration of the works is until 30/9/2024.
Working Hours are 09:00 – 15:00.
A copy of the drawing showing the extent of the closure and also the alternative route for traffic is attached.
Horley Manor stables were broken into last night as were the garages and outbuildings belonging to the houses at the top of Manor Orchard. Please can everyone make sure they lock all their outbuildings and do not leave tools/gardening equipment outside.
The new once a week bus service to Banbury started last week and will run every Thursday as follows:
A Horley resident who tried out the service last week gave this report:
‘It provides a quick and flexible way to get to and from Banbury without the use of a car. The journey starts from Hornton then through Horley etc. Depending on the requirements of the passengers the driver will go to the Banbury bus station or miss that out and go straight to the Gateway Retail Park. There is certainly enough time to shop there and or in Banbury etc.
As you can see from the timetable the bus will pick you up from the retail park for the return journey so no need to use the current service to get back to Banbury. Speak to the driver on the inward journey and he will adapt the route to suit the passengers.
The service is free to everyone both young and old, infirm or not.
Speaking to the driver he explained that the service was not a trial run but was intended to be a permanent feature. However, he did go on to say that after a period of time, it is quite possible that the popularity of the service will be looked at and if it was not used to any great extent it could be stopped.
The provision of a bus service has been the subject of much debate with pressure being applied on the council regularly. So please use the bus. It is flexible, comfortable and gives you enough time for shopping.‘
Thanks to all those who helped make the Horley quiz held on Friday 3rd February such a success. We had a great turnout – in fact, we would not have been able to fit many more into the Old School!
Teams puzzled over crops grown around Horley; beers served in the Red Lion, road sign locations and kitchen cupboard ingredients amongst other things.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped on the night.
The quiz raised £600 to be split between two worthy charities: The Katherine House Hospice and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.
Horley Ladies Guild are organising a charity quiz on 2nd Feb at 7pm – see poster below for details.
Most of the questions have a local twist so come along and pitch your wits against your neighbours in this fun quiz. Teams of up to 6 can enter, or you can come along and make up a team on the night.
Entry is £5.00 per person and all monies raised will be shared between the Katharine House Hospice and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.
There will be a cash bar serving refreshments and a raffle. (Raffle prizes welcome!) Previous quizzes have been very popular – in fact we ran out of room so please book your place by contacting Emma Hamer on 07469 084691 or email Emma.Hamer@nfu.org.uk
