A large number of bottles were seen dumped on the old ironstone railway path at the weekend. This has been reported to Cherwell District Council but if you see any more examples of our lovely countryside being spoiled by fly tipping, please report it to CDC. Here is the link:

Thanks for everyone’s continued support for the Ukraine, our appeal for warm coats and duvets got an amazing response. They are now looking for just food items, preferably cans of food with a ring pull top that can be heated over a stove.
As always any items that you can spare is much appreciated and Rita continues to do great job collecting and taking the items down to the teams central hub.

As you may know, Chris and Tessa Howell have stepped back from organising the amazing Ironstone Concerts in September. However, the concerts are now under new management (wish us luck!) and will be on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th September.

The Parish Council is clearly aware that the street-lamp outside the Red Lion Pub is not working – now for 4 months! David Beck, Parish Clerk says:
‘I have regularly contacted Oxfordshire County Council on this matter and have received various replies, including being told three times the problem was fixed!!
Having recently received a communication from OCC that the ‘file was closed’, I contacted them again.
This is the latest response I have just received..
There is an electricity supply fault at this street light and has been sent to the electricity company for repair, it depends on workload as to how long it takes but is in hand to be rectified.

Whatever your gardening knowledge, there will be something for everyone in this fun quiz which is open to all. The three Hs gardening club will have their first meeting of 2023 on Tuesday 14th February starting at 7.30pm in Hornton Pavilion. There will be a gardening quiz with prizes for teams of up to 6 people. Come along and pitch your wits against Horley and Hornton’s finest gardeners – all welcome.
Thank you to everyone who looked out for Rosie – she was found this afternoon on top of a log pile in a farm yard. The logs had moved and trapped two of her legs, one of which is broken. She’s at the vets and Liz and Christian are waiting for news on what they can do for her.
One of Liz and Christian’s cats has been missing since Saturday 28th from Brook House along the Hornton Road. She’s a one-year old Maine Coon called Rosie. Quite large, long haired with very pointy ears; mostly dark but with white flashes. Please look in your garages, sheds etc in case she is trapped somewhere.

Hornton History Group’s next talk is all about RAF Brize Norton, and given by a former serviceman who spent almost 30 years in the RAF.
It takes place on 9th February at 7.30pm in the pavilion and you don’t have to be a History Group member to go – everyone is invited.

You will have noted the article from the Parish Council on ‘The Poo Problem’.
As the Cricket Club has similar problems, it can only support the Parish Council.
The Club has noticed increased instances of poo not being picked up, poo bags being left on the wall in front of the pavilion or hanging from the buildings or deposited in the Club’s waste bins or just left for the club to dispose of!.
Dog owners are reminded there is a Poo bin outside the main gate.
The Club currently does not have an issue with dogs being walked on the field – indeed many of its members enjoy doing that. However, the Club has a Health and Safety responsibility, particularly as the field is used by youngsters. Therefore, if the issue of the poo and its disposal continues, the club will have to consider a ban of dogs which it would do with great reluctance.

Anyone walking along the footpaths around Horley can’t fail to have noticed the poo problem. There is an increasing amount of poo simply left by dog owners and bags of poo hung on trees or left at the side of the path. This is both anti social and, if you are caught, may result in a fine up to £1,000.
There are 4 poo bins in Horley:
at the Hornton Lane end of Clump Lane
at the Cricket Club gate on Banbury Lane
at the entrance to the field just before the Old Forge on Wroxton Lane
by the stile at the top of Little Lane.
These are paid for by the Parish Council and are emptied regularly.
If you have a dog, you need to clear up after it. This applies to everyone.
The Parish Council may need to take further enforcement measures if the situation doesn’t improve.
