Motocross planning application near Horley

There has been a retrospective planning application for the motocross track near the village:

https://planningregister.cherwell.gov.uk/Planning/Display/21/00517/F

This might be of interest to villagers who wish to either support or object to the application.

Caution – Is this a scam?

Some people in the village have recently received letters that appear to come from people they know in the village – these people do not know that a letter has been sent in their name. It is asking you to join a free app called Nextdoor Horley and says it is a neighbourhood hub for useful information. It asks you to download an app and gives you a code to join.

I checked with the person on my letter and they did not send it out, but had gone onto the website when they received the letter from someone else in the village.

Looking online it’s not clear if it is a scam or a money making scheme, but using people’s names without their permission is obviously not genuine. So please don’t go onto the website as your name could be used on other letters.

We have plenty of ways to share information and support each other in the village in a safe environment.

Census day – 21 March

The Census is coming on 21 March.  Information from the digital-first Census will help decide how services are planned and funded in our local area. Census outputs inform where millions of pounds of public funding is spent on services like transport, education and health, and on cycle routes, schools and dental surgeries.  Everyone will receive a letter with a unique access code in the post, allowing them to complete their questionnaire online.  Paper questionnaires will be available on request.

For more information visit Census.gov.uk

Coronavirus in Horley

The Horley Coronavirus Support Group is aware that there have been a number of cases of the virus in the village, so please take care and stay at home where possible.

On a brighter note, several Horley residents have received their first vaccine jab.  Hopefully the rest of the village will follow before too long.

In the meantime, stay safe, and remember the support group is here if you need any help.  We can be contacted by email horleycsg@gmail.com or phone 01295 738334 .

Christmas Card Post Box

Let us deliver your village Christmas Cards for you!

From 29th November there will be a village post box on the verge near the Royal Mail Box. This Horley Christmas Card Post Box will be for Christmas cards from villagers to other villagers only. The box will be there until 18th December. Please address the cards with the recipients full name and house name so that our elves can deliver them correctly!

Happy Christmas!

It’s Pete’s Birthday, let’s celebrate!

Many of you may know Pete Miers, our resident furniture maker.

Pete will be celebrating his 90th birthday on Saturday, 24th October.

To mark this special occasion it has been suggested that we buy a young Oak Tree to plant in the village (unless anyone has another idea) as a reminder of all the work Pete has done for many of us over the years, and hopefully will continue to do.

If you would like to contribute towards a gift, please contact Sue Patching.
