Ironstone Benefice All Saints Day Service – Sunday 31st October

Alicia Baker, Rector of the Ironstone Benefice writes: “On October 31st we are celebrating All Saints Day (Nov 1st). Wroxton Church will be hosting the service for the whole Benefice at 10.30am.

As I wrote in the magazine this month, All Saints services are poignant occasions. They can be celebratory as we remember that the people who have passed away are now in a better place. But of course they are also sad times because we have lost people close to us. This year we remember especially those we have lost to Covid 19.

This service in Wroxton will be reflective. There may be a hymn or two, a couple of readings, and the opportunity to light a candle. You may only want to stay for a little while or for the whole time – about 45 minutes. It’s up to you. Everyone is most welcome.”

Ride and Stride for Churches – Saturday 11th September

Ride and Stride for Oxfordshire Historic Churches is taking place on Saturday 11th September. See poster below or visit www.ohct.org.uk/ride-stride for details of how to take part.

Plant and cake sale – thank you

A huge thank you from the Ladies Guild to everyone who supported our home made cake sale earlier this month – we hope everyone enjoyed their purchases! We raised £254 from the cake sale and a fantastic £880 from the plant stall up to and including the plant and cake sale day. Proceeds will go towards further repairs to the Church and to the Michael Hardinge Trust.

Caroline would also like to thank everyone who purchased plants and gave sponsor money during the last two weeks to Duggie for his (and her) 10 mile walk for the Katherine House Hospice, which raised over £400.

Thank you!

Big Clean thank you

Big Clean – Thank you!

A big thank you to all those who took part in the Big Clean of the church on Saturday morning.  It was a couple of hours of hard work, but what a difference!  Not a cobweb in sight (anywhere within reach at any rate – and that was quite a long way as you can see!)

We are thinking of having a quarterly Big Clean at key points in the year, e.g. around Harvest Festival, before Christmas and Easter and in early June before the wedding season starts. Volunteers are always welcome!

Church Big Clean on Saturday 5th and Service on Sunday 6th June

A ‘Big Clean’ of the Church is planned for Saturday 5th June at 10:30am now the work on the West WIndow is complete.  All welcome to come and help!

It will all be spick and span for the Church service on Sunday 6th June at 11am – all welcome then too!

Singing at last!

Just to remind everyone that this Sunday we can, at last, sing again!

Our new Rector Alicia  has organised an outdoor Benefice Service at 5pm on 30th May at Hadsham Farm Horley with a hymn chosen by a representative from each of our eight churches.

Please bring a fold up seat or waterproof ground sheet if you find sitting most comfortable.

This is all age worship with everyone welcome.

Church Service tomorrow (16 May) at 11am with our new Rector

There will be a Church Service tomorrow, Sunday 16th May, at 11:00, led by our new Rector, Alicia Baker.

Come along and give Alicia a warm welcome to Horley!

Church News: Service on 2nd May, West Window Repairs and New Rector

The next Church Service will be on Sunday 2nd May at 11:00 – all welcome.

As you can see, there is still scaffolding at the Church whilst the West Window is replaced after it blew in during a storm last year. The surrounding stonework is also being repaired as it is crumbling in places.

In other news, our new Rector, Alicia Baker, is being licensed in Hornton on 4th May and the service will be streamed if anyone wants to watch.
