Ukraine Appeal

Rita is still doing an amazing job collecting items for the Ukraine Appeal and taking them into the team in Banbury. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting this good cause. If you can help in any way the following are urgently needed:

General household items: Candles, torches, camping stoves, floor and washing liquids, sponges, mops and buckets, toilet paper, kitchen rolls, house cleaning products, single duvets, pillows and bed linen (new or in very good condition please)

Food items for quick preparation: Cans of food with ring pulls, pasta, rice, noodles, chunky soups, cooking sauces, cooking oil, tomato concentrate, flour, yeast, long life/dry milk, tea, coffee, sugar, salt, biscuits, energy bars, dried fruit and nuts, sweets

Medical items: Pain killers, bandages, plasters, disinfectant wipes, disinfectant creams, cough syrups

Babies and children’s products: Nappies, wet wipes, baby milk, baby food, children’s snacks, sweets.

Toiletries: Toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, wet wipes, shampoo, shower gel, women’s hygiene items, body creams

Items for pets: Wet or dry food

Items can be left in the box under Rita’s porch – if you don’t know the address please ask anyone in the Ladies Guild, as I don’t want to give out an address on this post

Many thanks, any items, however small will really make a difference.

Services at St Etheldreda’s in November

A note for your diaries: as well as our usual Common Worship Holy Communion service this Sunday at 11am (6 Nov), there will be a Remembrance Sunday Service at 10.55am on Sunday 13 November.

Service at St Etheldreda’s on Thursday 22nd September

In St Etheldreda’s on Thursday September 22nd at 7:30pm we will welcome and license The Revd Guy Edwards as the House for Duty priest in the Ironstone Benefice. He will be living in Horley Vicarage with his wife Jessie. His work will take him to all the villages of Hanwell, Hornton, Shenington, Alkerton, Balscote, Wroxton and Drayton.

All welcome to come along on 22nd to meet Guy and Jessie.

A Message from Horley Parish Council and Parochial Church Council

It is with great sadness that we heard from Buckingham Palace of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 8th September 2022.

In common with the rest of the nation, the church bell will toll from 12 noon today, Friday.

In addition, a book of condolence will be made available in the Church from tomorrow, Saturday, for those wishing to pay their respects.   There is also an opportunity to pay your respects on-line to the e-book of condolences on https://www.royal.uk/royal-family

IRONSTONE Chamber Music – Festival Mass on Sunday 11th September 2022

The Ironstone Chamber Music Festival will conclude with a Festival Mass:

St Etheldreda’s Church, HORLEY

Organist: David Kyle

Missa Brevis by Mozart K259 in C major.

This will be accompanied by the Ironstone Singers and Strings

with Organ continuo.

IRONSTONE Chamber Music Festival 9th and 10th September 2022

A reminder of this unique chamber music festival taking place in Horley and Hornton on the weekend of 9th and 10th September, followed by  a sung Mass in Horley Church at 11am on the 11th September. Possibly the last chance to hear international musicians in our church.

Ticket prices are: Evening concerts £22 and Saturday lunchtime Coffee Concert £15.
Festival Pass: £55 for all three concerts.  Pre-booking advised.

What a perfect way to spend a beautiful sunny day, come along to a traditional village fete – tomorrow Saturday 16th July 2 pm in Horley

Don’t forget to come along to our first village fete for a few years, enjoy a Pimms or refreshments with our delicious BBQ and homemade cakes and take part in traditional village fete activities.

Lots of amazing raffle prizes including a Fitbit Inspire 2, theatre tickets and hampers in addition to those shown on the flyer below.

It’s not long now till Horley’s Summer Fete!

As well as the usual stalls (refreshments, home-made cakes, plants, tombola, toys/books and assorted games) there will be a Children’s Garden Design competition:

The Jubilee celebrations in Horley will kick off with the bells being rung at St Etheldreda’s Church on Thursday 2nd June between 14:30 and 15:15.
