10 Year Anniversary of Horley Bells

It’s 10 years this month since the bells in St Etheldreda’s Church were rung for the first time after a 25 year period of silence.  Prior to February 2014, it hadn’t been possible to ring the bells as they had been declared unsafe for ringing due to water damage to the ancient wooden frame.

After a fantastic fundraising effort in 2012 – 2013 led by Mike Patching, the bell frame was restored and two new bells were cast and installed to supplement the original four bells.

We will be ringing the bells to celebrate this 10 year anniversary next Saturday 17th February between 2pm and 4pm.

Listen out – or better still, come and along and see the bells being rung. We have put a camera in the bell chamber so you will be able to see the bells in action as well as the ringers !

Christmas Presents for the Sunshine Centre

As a Benefice of eight churches we have once again offered to provide Christmas presents for the children of The Sunshine  Centre in Banbury.

For those of you who don’t know about this amazing facility, The Sunshine Centre was created to act as a hub for a range of family and childcare support services for the community in Bretch Hill and the surrounding area, this includes Early Years and the Childrens’ Centre.

It is an Ofsted rated, ‘outstanding’ nursery, which provides childcare for children from 3 months to 5 years, organises classes and courses for families in the community, and hosts a range of baby and toddler groups. It also partners with other organisations such as the NHS to provide weekly antenatal clinics.

It is proposed that any presents that are donated should be wrapped in Christmas paper and marked with a post-it note or similar as to what they are and what age and gender the child is to whom they’d be best suited.  Small presents with a value of £5 to £10 are what are required.

If you are minded to contribute please leave the presents on or near the main altar in St Etheldreda’s, from where they will be collected no later than Monday 4th December, and taken to the centre.

Thank-you from the staff and children.
